Escape Rooms: What They Are and Why You Should Try One
Escape rooms are booming in popularity, but not everyone has tried it yet. So what are they, and why should you try one? Find out today!
For anyone searching for mystery, adventure, and excitement, there’s no need to look any further. Escape rooms provide all that and more. It’s a little like getting to be Indiana Jones and Sherlock Holmes at the same time.
But some people haven’t heard of them.Others have but haven’t been swayed enough to try one. We’re sharing with you what an escape room is and why you need to book one right now.
What is an Escape Room?
Escape rooms are a complicated endeavor, literally. When you sign up for an adventure in one, you’re locked in a room with everyone one else.
Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to find the clues. Those clues then lead you to solve puzzles. The puzzles then help you to complete your mission so you can find the key to escape the room.
Most rooms require at least two people to play. There is usually a limit of about 6-8 players so there’s room for everyone to move about freely. Each game takes about one hour to complete.
They Can Be Theme Based
Best of all, escape rooms are theme based. We are having one based on Bigfoot.
Set in a cabin in the woods, your team will investigate clues to see if he really exists.
Each room has a theme to it. You can be anywhere, anyone, at any time. But the whole point is to get out of the sticky situation you find yourself in or discover the truth behind mysteries.
You Can Fully Immerse Yourself in Your Character
To have more fun when playing, feel free to come dressed in full character. Escape rooms are that much more fun when everyone is fully immersed in the game. It’s a bit like a Murder Mystery game but much more interactive and thrilling.
There are no play actors and no one knows what to expect. That makes it more exciting for every place because no one knows what will happen next. The more each player immerses themselves into the game, the more intense and fun the game will feel.
It Can Get You Out of Your Rut
Escape rooms are built on fantasy. If you’re stuck in a rut, time in an escape room could be just what you need.
You get to be someone else for a little while. All of a sudden, your boyfriend dumping you isn’t so important. Finding the next clue is. You’ll also find out what you’re made of when you’re under pressure. Except it’s a fun type of stress.
And fun stress is actually good for us. It teaches us out to be more resilient and caring. We also learn how to connect with others during fun stress. And how to be more courageous.
An escape room adventure is a perfect way to get out of your own way, get out of your own head, and learn a few things about yourself. It also helps you to remember not to take life or yourself too seriously and to have a little fun every once in awhile.
It’s Fun for the Whole Family
Depending on the theme of the room, escape rooms can be the perfect family activity. By booking the entire room for your whole family, allows the younger kids to get in on the action. If you aren’t booking an entire room, it will be more difficult for younger kids to play and they may not be able to.
The room can help you to work together as a team for the good of the whole family. You’ll also learn to appreciate each other’s strengths. Since there are no skills involved, everyone has an equal chance to shine.
An escape room can also be a lot more fun than playing a board game at home. It gets you all out of the house and fully immersed in the game. Which also means no diversions like cell phones, the internet, or TV.
Added bonus, no one can leave either until you’ve all solved the puzzle.
Escape Rooms Are Like Real Life Video Games
For anyone who loves video games, I can’t imagine a better place for them to come to. An escape room is exactly like a real-life video game.
There’s excitement, pressure, and you have to solve a puzzle. You never know what will turn up next.
For anyone who spends too much time squirreled up in their home playing video games, this is a great way for you to get out and experience life with other humans. You might even find that your video game skills translate well into the real-life game.
Excellent Exercise for Your Brain
Your brain needs exercise just as much as your body does. An escape room is the perfect brain teaser to keep your brain young and functioning in a healthy manner.
That’s because these rooms are like giant puzzles. Puzzles that will keep you alert.
You’ll expand your creativity levels and increase your concentration while you’re at it. A visit to an escape room can help you improve other types of cognitive functions as well.
They’re Fun
Best of all, escape rooms are just fun. They’re a way to commune with others and play games. With so many things to worry about these days, it’s imperative that we take time out to do fun things for ourselves. Worrying doesn’t solve anything but at an escape room, you get the opportunity to actually solve something.
You feel as though you’re back in control in this mad, crazy world. Sure, it’s not really real, but it will seem like it is while you’re playing and that’s all that matters.
